STILL ON MY VISION FOR NIGERIA: Lack Of Patriotism

Today, disgruntled Nigerians speak of Nigeria as if it was an enemy country. Today, unscrupulous Nigerians perpetuate economic crimes that damage the image of Nigeria. Today, save for a few shinning lights, the political class is without requisite character; elections are taken as a matter of life and death irrespective of the consequence to the Nigerian nation. People go into politics for the purpose of enriching themselves from state coffers. Naturally, the electoral process is perverted and the will of the people I more often jettisoned in preference to the purchasing power of the bidders in political garb.
Patriotic zeal ought to be the bedrock of the Nigerian Armed Forces. National Youth Service Corp was intended as a melting pot of nation pride. Today the patriotic foundations for these institutions to meet their nationalistic obligations have been washed away. Soldiers plot to subvert and overthrow constituted authority; youth Corp member fill American Lottery Visa forms to flee Nigeria. This unfortunate situation is not by accident. It is a direct consequence of the selfishness perpetuated by the leaders of post independence nigeria who preached self and tribe above nationhood. The immediate result of their acts was the Nigerian Civil War, the lessons of which are still with us
